Construction crews were busy throughout the Chicago area in October, according to the latest numbers from Dodge Data & Analytics.

According to Dodge, non-residential construction starts in October totaled more than $410 million this year. In last October, non-residential construction starts totaled more than $386 million. That means that construction starts were 6 percent higher this October than during the same month last year.

For the year, though, non-residential construction starts – which includes industrial, retail, hotels, warehouses and office – are actually down 5 percent when compared to 2016, Dodge reported. So far this year, non-residential construction starts have totaled more than $4.9 billion. That’s an impressive number.

But last year, non-residential construction starts through the end of October came out to more than $5.1 billion.
