Engineering firm SME expands into Louisville area

Engineering firm SME has opened its 13th office in the Louisville metropolitan area, marking a significant step in its goal to expand in the Great Lakes mega-region. The office is located at 1200 Bell Lane, Suite B in New Albany, Indiana.

SME has been serving southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky communities for more than 10 years. This new location complements the firm’s existing regional offices in Indiana and Ohio and enhances the company’s ability to provide geotechnical, environmental and building materials services to the region.

Regional Office Manager and Vice President Michael Meddock will lead the Louisville Metro office with support from Senior Project Engineer Wesley Hemp.

Meddock is responsible for overseeing and coordinating SME’s suite of services in Ohio and Indiana. He manages all aspects of redevelopment projects from acquisition through design and construction, including environmental, geotechnical and construction materials services to bring a project to successful completion. He provides specialized expertise to owners and communities on brownfield redevelopment projects. Meddock is a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan and holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

With more than 18 years of geotechnical experience in the Louisville and Southern Indiana areas, Hemp is skilled in designing, managing and performing geotechnical evaluations. He has expertise in specialty foundation systems and provides general design considerations for underpinning systems including helical piers, micro-piles and pin-piles. Hemp has conducted safety inspections for earth dams and is experienced with DCP (Dynamic Cone Penetrometer) testing procedures using both ASTM and Sowers methods.
