Eagan, Minnesota-based MV Ventures, the full-service real estate development firm owned by the Wilf Family and responsible for the development, construction, management and activation of multiple Minnesota properties, has named construction and real estate attorney Matt Slaven as vice president and general counsel.
Slaven, who practices primarily in the areas of land use and zoning, real estate development, construction and sports and stadiums, joins MV Ventures from his previous role as a partner in Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP’s real estate practice in Minneapolis.
A Chambers & Partners-ranked construction attorney, Slaven has played pivotal roles in several of Minnesota’s most prominent redevelopment projects, including the 122-acre Ford Motor Company Twin Cities Assembly Plant site and the Minnesota Children’s Museum renovation and reconfiguration.
Beginning in 2012, Slaven represented the Minnesota Vikings in connection with the design, development, construction and operation of U.S. Bank Stadium, the state’s largest public-private partnership project. He continued to represent the Vikings, MV Ventures and the Wilf Family as a partner at Taft prior to this latest move.
A graduate of St. Cloud State University and the Hamline University School of Law, Slaven has more than 20 years of experience in complex litigation, arbitration and transactional matters. He has assisted national and local developers, lenders, contractors and design professionals with contract negotiations, construction claim administration, insurance coverage and surety issues.
Slaven joins the MV Ventures team as the 200-acre Viking Lakes Eagan campus continues to take shape. Owned and operated by the Wilf Family, the campus will encompass more than 3 million square feet of corporate and medical offices, retail, entertainment and multi-family housing.
The project boasts open and public spaces, including trails, water/wetland preserves and other amenities to create vibrancy and connectivity, all anchored by the 34-acre headquarters and training facility of the Minnesota Vikings – Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center and TCO Stadium.
The Eagan campus already includes Twin Cities Orthopedics Eagan, Training Haus Sports Medicine Center, MV Ventures, Arete Sport, USTA Northern, Minnesota Røkkr and Version1 esports franchises, the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel and the Vikings Museum and Locker Room Team Store.
The first phase of the Viking Lakes residential community is currently under construction, with 261 units, a clubhouse and retail expected to open in summer 2021.
