ARCO National Construction’s Detroit division recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a cold storage facility expansion for Weeks Food Corporation, a fifth-generation, family-owned and operated wholesale food distributor.
The expansion will add 21,515 square feet of temperature-controlled space to the company’s current meat distribution facility at 36901 Division Road in Richmond, Michigan, in the Detroit market.
The project will enhance the company’s next-day service of top-quality beef, pork, poultry, seafood, and additional frozen food products while also supplying fresh chicken to KFC and Popeye’s locations across Michigan and northern Ohio.
Once complete, the expansion will include a 34°F-36°F cooler, 6,232 SF 36°F cold dock, and 4,795 SF -10°F freezer. Site development includes city utility connections and decommissioning and removal of the existing sanitary field system.
Additional features include fire-rated insulated metal panel construction to allow for separation of cold storage spaces, 28’ clear height, six dock positions, a freon refrigeration system, and a 1,200-amp electrical service.
ARCO National Construction’s Detroit division is providing design-build services for the project. Backed by a nationwide presence, ARCO brings more than 75 million square feet of expertise across 585+ projects for food and beverage clientele.
The site is designed to accommodate future expansion, ensuring long-term growth potential for Weeks Food Corporation. Throughout the construction phase, Weeks Food Corporation will remain fully operational in their existing facility, ensuring uninterrupted service for their customers.
