Google will expand it’s presence in the Fulton Market district next year, further extending Chicago’s reputation as a tech hub. The company, which already has a Midwest headquarters in the west side neighborhood, has leased approximately 132,000 square feet of Sterling Bay’s 210 N. Carpenter Street, now under construction.

“What started out as a small sales office has now grown to house some of Google’s most critical teams with roughly over 1,000 employees working across product, engineering, technical infrastructure, advertising and more,” said Karen Sauder vice president at Google. “Chicago is considered an innovation hub for the greater Midwest and attracts incredible talent from across all industries.”

The Mountain View, California-based tech firm will occupy six floors within 210 N. Carpenter beginning next year. The latest development from Sterling Bay, 210 N. Carpenter is at the center of the city’s hottest neighborhood and steps away from the Morgan and Lake Street ‘L’ station. When complete, the 12-story new construction will total around 200,000 square feet with 23,000 square foot floor plates and outdoor terraces.

Building amenities will include a sky deck overlooking the city, a rooftop lap pool, tenant lounge and gaming area and a full-service fitness center with locker rooms and programmed yoga space. Tenants will also be able to take advantage of conference facilities, a secure bike room and indoor parking for over 40 cars. The property will also include over 12,000 square feet of prime retail space.

Kyle Kamin of CBRE represented Google in the transaction. The new building, designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, is one block away from the former Fulton Market Cold Storage building that Sterling Bay redeveloped into office space and in which Google leases 372,000 square feet.
