Stahl recently broke ground on the two-story, 55,000-square-foot Kirkendall Public Library in Ankeny, Iowa. The new library will be located at 1250 SW District Drive in the Prairie Trail development and will provide new space for the rapidly growing northern suburb.

Upon completion in the summer of 2019, the library will also house a new city council meeting room and a multifunction sub-dividable meeting and conference room suite with movable partitions.

“As more people choose to make Ankeny their home and as our community grows, our facility needs to grow. The new library will better serve our residents and will have the ability to accommodate future growth. We are proud to work with Stahl on this very important project and we are excited to see the new library come to life as construction begins,” said Paul Moritz, Ankeny Assistant City Manager, in a written statement.

Stahl is leading the construction project alongside OPN Architects, Inc., the key designers of the facility. The library design will reflect the traditional Iowa town square model with mixed-use space available for civic, commercial, residential, educational, and retail purposes.

Bond referendums approved in May 2017 provided the $15 million of funding needed for the library and an additional $2.55 million for a new fire station to service the area. Mayor Gary Lorenz, city officials, representatives from Stahl, and other members of the public attended the ceremonial groundbreaking on June 1, 2018.
