Leopardo completed a new 30,000-square-foot police station for Glen Ellyn Police Department.
The new station replaced an undersized an outdated space previously shared with the village hall that was housed in a former junior high school originally built in 1928. The police department occupied the station for more than 40 years.
The new two-story station includes secured detention facilities and enclosed sally port, evidence processing, separate secured processing room storage, a vehicle exam room, office locker rooms with bathroom and showers, a fitness area, emergency operating center, patrol investigations and administration spaces, a large community room, public restrooms. The facility also uses electrochromic windows that tint to maximize natural light automatically in the lobby and community room.
Leopardo led the design-build project in collaboration with architecture firm Dewberry. The project was finished two months ahead of schedule.
