Beverly Hayes: Loving Her Work & Cherishing Her Family

Beverly Hayes entered industrial real estate five years ago. At the time, Hayes said the only person who would talk to her was Matt Rogatz at Chicago Industrial Real Estate, so she owes him a great deal, and sends great thanks to Stu Mills and John Hunter as well! Hayes was at CIRE for four years then moved to Sperry Van Ness last fall where she is now Senior Advisor, concentrating on the I-55 and south out to NW Indiana area, with some Chicagoland properties as well.

How’s business? “Sperry has a great industrial team which I’m glad to be a part of. On the business side we see activity trending up, getting busier, buyers willing to do more – faster – all in all a good thing.”

What drives her passion for industrial? “The idea that I’m helping people improve their lives, sometimes even see a dream come true. One of my favorite deals was a small food building. The buyer had come to this great country with his dad, $60, and a dream in the early 90s, and today owns a growing food company. He practically had tears in his eyes at the closing, he was so thrilled. That is a scene I won’t forget.”

If she wasn’t in industrial real estate what would she be doing? “I would be in sales, somewhere! I come from a long line of sales people, most especially my dad. I just lost him two months ago. He was still doing estate planning three years ago until we convinced him to take it easy at 86. So I have really relied on the power of prayer, and my friends, to keep sane in the last several months as we watched him decline. But I would still be in sales!”

One thing she would like to do in her lifetime? “Ski the trail in Park City, that takes a whole day and runs through 6 ski areas—kind of like hiking the Appalachians on skis.”

Thanksgiving plans? “I hope to eat and drink to my heart’s content, surrounded by my family, and remembering the abundance of blessings which God has poured in to my life. And I wish that for all your readers, too.”
