This morning’s Guest Speaker at the Chicago Association of REALTORS Commercial Forum was Cook County Assessor, Joe Berrios. He gave a very informative update on several topics that could affect Commercial Real Estate in the Chicagoland area; good and bad.
When the subject of property taxes came up, he had some very good talking points that I thought was timely to share as the 1st Installment Tax Bills have been mailed out.
-> “We encourage appeals. What is good for a city block, neighborhood or town maynot be good for an individual property. If you don’t appealk, we assume our calculations were right and you’re happy.”
-> “Please appeal your taxes if you feel they are too high. The appeal process keeps our system honest.”
If you think your property taxes are too high, you might want to engage the services of a Tax Appeal Attorney. One that I highly recommend is The Law Offices of Dennis W. Winkler, P.C.
Tax-Saving Solutions From Dennis W. Winkler, P.C.
Whether you are planning to sell your commercial property or just trying to increase profitability, one of the easiest ways to accomplish that is to lower your property taxes which can be achieved through a property assessment appeal. Each year the individual Assessor’s Offices determine the market value of all non-exempt land parcels which is then used to determine the property tax rates. Each county has a reassessment cycle at which time different townships have the ability to appeal the tax amount and 2015 is a reassessment year for the City of Chicago. The entire process involves a great deal of time and preparation which can be rather confusing to property owners.
Achieving the greatest possible reduction through a property assessment appeal requires a great deal of specialized knowledge and experience with the assessment appeal process. At the Law Offices of Dennis W. Winkler, P.C., we work diligently and efficiently to determine the best path to follow for the appeal in order to get the best possible tax savings.
Time-Tested Practices The Law Offices of Dennis W. Winkler, P.C., has practiced extensively in real estate and real estate tax assessment appeals for approximately 20 years. Our firm completes the appeal process from start to finish including drafting appeal forms, researching the property, researching comparable properties in the area, and attending the final hearing with the Board of Review. We have recently achieved some drastic assessment reductions due, in part, to our creative and innovative approaches to the valuation of real estate.
