Engineering firms, Thornton Tomasetti, Inc. and Weidlinger Associates, Inc., have merged. The deal creates a leader in engineering innovation covering a broad range of investigation, analysis and design services. The combined firm will have 1,200 employees operating in 34 cities internationally.
Thornton Tomasetti served as the engineer of record for Tilt, a moveable platform at 360 CHICAGO. The firm designed the operable steel and glass structure and evaluated the steel framing of the 1960s-era building to verify its capacity to support it; structural design services for the renovation/adaptive reuse of Soldier Field; structural design for the 110,000 SF renovation of Navy Pier South Arcade and Family Pavilion; and structural engineering services for a number of academic buildings at the University of Chicago including the William Eckhardt Research Center, Medicine Center for Care and Discovery, Booth School of Business, Saieh Hall for Economics, and the Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery.
Weidlinger provided structural and blast engineering services for additions to terminals at O’Hare International Airport, including a 30-foot blast resistant, cable supported curtain wall; and structural design, blast analysis and a vulnerability assessment of a new terminal building and parking structure at Midway Airport.
