Clayco and Zurich North America leadership today celebrated the completion of the development of Zurich’s new headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The new 738,000-square-foot building, which sits on 40 acres will be home to nearly 3,000 Zurich employees and contractors. Three years of design and construction have culminated in the development of the new space that has been awarded LEED Platinum® certification.

““It has been our honor to work with the entire Zurich project team. With their leadership and our integrated expertise, we created a corporate campus that will serve them well for many years to come,” said Robert G. Clark, Chairman and CEO, Clayco.

Composed of three primary “bars” that are offset and stacked, the arrangement creates unique spaces for collaboration, open views of the surrounding landscape, optimizes solar orientation for amenities, and provides programmatic flexibility not found in typical office buildings. The top “bar” of the complex soars 11 stories and cantilevers toward downtown Chicago, providing visual identity along the interstate while projecting the strength and future focus of the company.

The building was designed by architectural firm Goettsch Partners. The interior design was completed by CannonDesign and the interior was built by Executive Construction, Inc. (ECI). The landscape was designed by Hoerr Schaudt. JLL‘s Build-to-Suit practice group coordinated all development and financing activities.

“This building is a showcase of all we are at Zurich: its excellence in design, its focus on sustainability, and its reflection of our employees,” said Mike Foley, chief executive officer for Zurich North America. “Our new headquarters building embodies a new chapter for our organization and our recommitment to the North American market as part of our broader, global business plan. We see a bright future for our customers, shareholders and employees.”

Zurich North America challenged the design-build team and architects to target and achieve LEED Platinum – the highest level of certification awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council . The project reached this successful goal and was certified in last month. To date, it is the largest platinum certified building of its designation in the U.S.
