AIRE Cares sponsors Bike-O-Rama, needs a few participants

The Association of Industrial Real Estate Brokers has announced its Fall AIRE Cares event, a Bike-O-Rama that will have AIRE members and people participating in a series of bicycle maintenance programs. Sponsored by AIRE, the Bike-O-Rama is a partnership with Working Bikes and Chicago HELP Initiative (CHI).

Beginning on Oct. 17 — and running for six consecutive Thursdays — AIRE will partner with CHI guests to learn bicycle maintenance at Working Bikes, 2434 S. Western Ave., Chicago.  The course will run from 6-9 p.m. each night.

AIRE has made a financial contribution to these organizations that will provide scholarships to help those in need learn a valuable and marketable skill. A large retail organization has already expressed interest in providing employment opportunities to course graduates. Additionally, AIRE’s contribution has created a limited number of opportunities for AIRE members to learn important bicycle maintenance programs.

“Everyone wins,” said Mike Prost, one of the AIRE Cares co-chairs and a member of Lee & Associates. “CHI guests learn a skill and receive a reference for future job searches.  Working Bikes furthers their community outreach and trains future mechanics and AIRE members, besides helping out two great organizations, learn a new skill and have fun.

“This promises to be a fun, educational and rewarding event,” Prost added. “We’ll even be issuing certificates to those completing the course.”

The schedule of educational sessions includes:

  • Week 1:  Introduction to Bicycle Mechanics
  • Week 2:  Introduction to Brake and Derailleur Adjustment
  • Week 3:  Introduction to Bottom Brackets and Headsets
  • Week 4:  Introduction to wheel overhaul and alignment
  • Week 5:  Introduction to drive train maintenance
  • Week 6:  Review and test ride

For more information or to register, contact Mike Prost ([email protected]) or 847-208-5400.
