Amazon is once again making a big impact in the Midwest, announcing its plans for a new fulfillment center in the Charter Township area of Shelby, Michigan.
The site, which is scheduled to open in 2018, will bring 1,000 new full-time jobs, complete with benefits.
“Michigan has been a great place to do business for Amazon,” said Sanjay Shah, Amazon’s vice president of North American operations, in a written statement. “The state has been a source of exceptional talent for Amazon. We’re proud to be creating great jobs for Michiganders.”
The new fulfillment center will cover 1 million square feet. Employees will pick, pack and ship large items from the center.
The Midwest is a key region for Amazon, as the online retailer constantly strives to deliver products to consumers in fewer days. With its location in the center of the country, the Midwest has become a magnet for new Amazon fulfillment centers.
