Joseph J. Duffy Company, general contractor of Porta Coeli, an income- and age-restricted housing facility, expects it to be complete in December. Developed and managed by Porta Coeli Senior Housing, NFP, the apartment-style rental residences are located at 2260 E. 99th St.
The four-story facility will contain 86 one-bedroom units, complete with its own kitchen. Common amenities include a beauty salon, wellness center, community room with kitchen, multipurpose activity room and many other tenant benefits. The facility will provide affordable independent housing for the elderly who earn up to 30 percent of the area’s median income.
Several added green features are predicted to improve the energy efficiency of the structure. They include a green roof, energy recovery for the HVAC system and solar heated hot water.
HUD’s Section 202 Senior Housing Development Program, which helps finance the construction of affordable housing with services for seniors, funds the construction of Porta Coeli. This represents the eighth HUD 202 facility Duffy has built for Catholic Charities and is one of the last HUD 202 awards until the program is restarted. Harley Ellis Deveraux, P.C. is the architect.
