
Cleveland-based KeyBank Real Estate Capital expanded its affordable housing platform with the appointments of Shana Daby and Brian Zhao.
Daby joined Key’s Commercial Mortgage Group (CMG) as a senior mortgage banker, and reports to Al Beaumariage, co-head of the CMG affordable housing team. Zhao joins KeyBank Community Development Lending and Investment (CDLI) as a senior relationship manager and reports to Eric Steinberg, as part of the eastern region of CDLI led by Kyle Kolesar.
Daby comes to Key as a senior mortgage banker with more than 20 years of affordable housing experience. Daby is based in Portland, OR and her coverage area includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Northern California.
Most recently Daby was a top originations managing director at Greystone. Before transitioning to originations, she was deputy chief underwriter for affordable housing and FHA at Greystone. She is well versed in virtually all originations and underwriting aspects of the Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and Private Placement product offerings and her expertise spans both affordable and conventional multifamily products. Daby earned her M.A. in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University, and her B.S. in Finance and Spanish from University of St. Thomas.
Zhao joined Key as a senior relationship manager with more than a decade of commercial real estate experience. He is based in New York City and will work with a team of affordable housing finance experts to cover the Northeast markets. Most recently, Zhao was with R4 Capital where he was part of the LIHTC originations team, working across both tax credit equity and tax-exempt debt, including construction and permanent loan products.
Prior to R4 Capital, Zhao held various commercial real estate banking roles at Wells Fargo and East West Bank working in deal and credit underwriting, as well as origination for CMBS and agency debt products. Zhao earned his MBA in Real Estate and Finance from Babson College and his B.A. in Economics and Environmental Studies from University of California, Santa Cruz.
