Brokers and staffers with Colliers International in Ohio are doing their part in the fight against cancer. The commercial real estate company has become an important part of Pelotonia, a bicycle ride held early each August to raise funds for cancer prevention and treatment.
This year, 16 riders from Colliers’ Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton offices rode a combined 1,100 miles in a single day, raising $25,000 for cancer research. This marked the third consecutive year in which Colliers employees rode in the Pelotonia event.
It wasn’t just the riders, though, who made a difference. Colliers’ Ohio offices held “jeans days,” where employees paid to wear jeans for the day, the funds going to support the Pelotonia cause. Several Colliers’ staffers provided home-cooked lunches, photography services and other services in exchange for donations to the cancer-fighting efforts.
“One of our company’s core values is community, and Pelotonia has brought the Central Ohio region together like no other to raise money for cancer research,” said Brett Cisler, captain of Team Colliers, in a written statement. “Contributing to such an awe-insiring event that touches so many people is why we return year after year.”
In its first five rides, Pelotonia has attracted more than 11,100 riders and raised more than $54 million for cancer research. All of the money is used to fund cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center — Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
Riders can ride as many as 180 miles during two days, with their routes starting in Columbus. Ridres can ride 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 or 180 miles.
