The Commercial Brokers Group of Madison on Feb. 12 honored its 2013 Deal of the Year award winners, awards given to the most notable commercial real estate transactions in Madison, Wis.

TJ Blitz, past president of the Commercial Brokers Group and managing partner at Cresa Madison, said that the group had to sift through several worthy submissions this year.

“We saw another sizable increase in submissions over last year, signaling a healthy amount of activity in the market,” Blitz said.

This year’s winners were:

Office: The Meriter lease and redevelopment of 1414 Park Street including 10,000 rentable square feet and a 2,600 square-foot building addition. Christina Podoll of Sara Investment Real Estate represented the landlord and Steve Doran of Lee & Associates represented the tenant.

Retail: The Alterra/Colectivo Coffee lease of 3,000 square feet in the Tenney Building on the Capitol Square. John Bergh of White Box Commercial Property Group represented the tenant.

Industrial: The Ikaria lease transaction and new construction of a 64,000 square foot building at 6651 Femrite Drive in the McAllen Business Park.  Tom Phillips of Ruedebusch Development & Construction represented the landlord and Mark Winter and Chris Caulum of Oakbrook represented the tenant.

Investment/Multi-Family: The $10,507,000 sale of Esser Place at 1800-1850 Deming Way. The sale included 82,000 square feet of office space and 65,150 square feet of flex space. Craig Stanley of Broadwing Advisors represented the seller. TJ Blitz and Tim Rikkers of Cresa Madison were recognized for representing WTS Paradigm in a new lease that was a condition of the building purchase.

Land: The $4,000,000 purchase of a 200-acre land assemblage by Landmark Co-op Grain Facility.  Chase Brieman of CBRE represented the buyer.

Best Overall: The $12.9 million purchase of the former University Inn site at 441 N. Frances and State Street for ‘The Hub’, a large-scale retail and residential project currently under construction. Mike Osborne of Advantage Osborne represented the buyer.
