Each year, Midwest Real Estate News inducts a new class into its Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame. Last year, despite its challenges, was no exception. Here is a look at one of the members of our 2020 Hall of Fame class, Ryan Engle, senior managing director of investments with the Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, office of Marcus & Millichap.

Ryan Engle joined Marcus & Millichap in 2003 as part of the sales internship program. Because of his hard work and perseverance, he quickly moved up the ranks and is now a senior managing director of investments.

“The steps I have taken to succeed in commercial real estate are to stay committed,” Engle said, “and to constantly be learning, improving and evolving as the market changes.”

Engle partnered with Andrean Angelov in 2007 to found the Engle & Angelov Group at Marcus & Millichap. He currently works out of the Chicago Oak Brook office, where he focuses on the disposition of both multi-housing properties and manufactured housing communities in the Midwest.

Throughout his career, he has sold more than 550 properties and more than $1 billion in sales volume. Engle has consistently ranked as a top agent in the Midwest and has received numerous consecutive sales and achievement awards with Marcus & Millichap.

During a very challenging COVID-19 pandemic, Engle was able to lead his team to a record 2020 year with closings exceeding $200 million in sales volume and more than 50 transactions. The greatest challenge he has faced actually came 12 years earlier, though that, too, resulted in a constructive outcome.

“The positive development from The Great Recession is that it was the catalyst for me improving all aspects of my brokerage business,” Engle said. “In a good market you can make some mistakes and still close transactions, but in a challenging market any mistakes can cause a transaction to terminate.”

Well-liked and respected by his team, peers and clients, Engle has forged long-lasting relationships with those he works with. Along with Angelov, he manages and mentors a successful team of five up-and-coming agents in the Midwest. He and his team are known to be the market leaders in the Midwest and continue to grow strategically and organically.

Engle spent his childhood in southern California and his adolescence in the northwestern part of Iowa. Prior to joining Marcus & Millichap, he graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in both finance and management.

When he’s not in the office, Engle enjoys spending time with his wife and five sons. He also enjoys golfing and traveling.
