PVC-maker Manner Polymers is ramping up production of flexible PVC compounds at its new manufacturing facility in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Contegra Construction completed the 100,000-square-foot building that houses the new solar powered manufacturing plant. Manner Polymers installed and integrated its advanced manufacturing equipment and systems.  Once in full operation, the new facility will increase the company’s production capacity by 100 million pounds – further strengthening the domestic supply chain for a litany of industries. The plant, powered by a roof-mounted solar array and a 15-acre solar field, is projected to create more than 60 new jobs.

Located on a 30-acre site at 401 Fountain Place Drive, the plant is strategically located at the crossroads of major interstates – I-57 and I-64 – and will benefit from a new rail spur for transferring raw materials.  Manner Polymers’ flexible PVC compounds are used in many applications, including building and automotive wire. It is used in vehicle components such as auxiliary wire, battery cables, wire harnesses, wire protection, hoses, and over-mold connectors and terminations.

Contegra led the design/build team consisting of architectural designer Gray Design Group, structural engineer Alper Audi and a design/build subcontractor team that includes Jarrell Mechanical, Haier Plumbing, Bi-State Fire Protection and Clinton Electric.  The facility was constructed using tilt-wall concrete panels and features 11 dock doors and three drive-through doors. It is topped by a TPO roof.  A 55-foot tower encompasses a three-level production platform.  In addition to the production zone, there are 5,000 square feet of office space.
