Contegra Construction Company teamed with Capri Pools & Aquatics to develop $18.5 million in improvements to the Blanchette Family Aquatic Facility and Wapelhorst Family Aquatic Facility in St. Charles, Missouri.
Both facilities now feature enhanced amenities similar to those found in private waterparks. The City of St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department opened the enhanced facilities on May 24 of this year.
North Carolina-based Kimley Horn and Associates designed the water parks with input from citizens during six public hearings. The 11-month-long fast-track construction entailed demolishing existing facilities and managing the delivery of materials to the tight site. Both facilities needed to be open by Memorial Day weekend.
Among them ore challenging tasks was the delivery and installation of the Boomerang, a more than 350-foot-long enclosed inner-tube waterslide at the Wapelhorst facility. Other features at this park include a 5,624-square-foot lazy river, leisure pool, zero-depth entry children’s pool, the Poolsider Slide, Aqua Tube Slide and a wet ledge.
The Blanchette facility features a rock climbing wall, a 182-foot Poolsider slide, an Aqua Tube Slide and a drop slide. It also features a 4,674-square-foot lap pool, 4,000-square-foot leisure pool, 4,929-square-foot children’s pool and a 1,008-square-foot deep-water pool.
