Darland has completed construction of the new Village Point Toyota facility located just northwest of 180th and Dodge in Omaha as the new home for the auto dealership previously named Old Mill Toyota. The dealership is managed by the Van Tuyl Group, the largest privately held auto dealership group in the nation.
“Right now we have 45 active building projects going on across the country,” said Bob Carli of the Van Tuyl Group. “We always work with local contractors because we need and value the local relationships. We found that Darland has outstanding relationships with their subs. They got the job done with no excuses, no delays.
“The Darland team was excellent to work with. Both project manager Mike Thomsen and field superintendent Mike Harbin … well, they think from an owner’s perspective. They gave me intelligent options and made it easy for me to get this job done.”
“We faced a variety of issues on this project,” said Darland PM Mike Thomsen. “Excessive rain, some issues with the grading engineering and the custom-made exterior panels arriving damaged all threw kinks in the process. But with some innovative thinking and creative scheduling, we still got the project done on time.”
The building features a mix of materials including glass, precast concrete and aluminum composite architectural panels designed for eye-catching impact. The 7.8 acre site is able to display more than 550 new cars and provides more than 100 parking spots for staff and customers, nearly tripling the capacity of the previous dealership site.
Construction also included the installation of a StormTech® water detention system.
“Storm water management was a big part of the job, but something the public will never see,” Thomsen said. “Ten 62-foot, large-diameter underground pipes retain runoff from the parking lots. It’s critical to have reliable storm water management when you have this much paving.”
