Thanks in part to a $1.3 million Michigan Strategic Fund Business Development Program grant, YFS Automotive Systems will invest $26.9 million to open a manufacturing facility in Detroit at a site that will soon be announced.
The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, City of Detroit and Michigan Economic Development Corp. worked together to earn the grant for YFS, a Chinese-based automotive supplier with a U.S. headquarters in Gallatin, Tennessee.
YFS plans to build a 150,000-square-foot facility to design, test and manufacture automotive fuel system components. The site is expected to employ 50 people when it opens and up to 160 when at full capacity. It will also have room for an expansion of up to 100,000 square feet.
YSF plans to start production by July of 2017.
