Development Solutions, Inc. (DSI) and InSite Real Estate recently broke ground on the new Chicago retail location for West Marine, the largest specialty retailer of boating supplies and accessories. The site is at the corner of Halsted and Division, a high-traffic river-front location in the heart of the growing Goose Island neighborhood.

To prepare the site, DSI demolished the former tow yard facility and remediated the soils to ultimately support the proposed 20,000 SF precast and structural steel building. Construction kicked off with an official ground breaking ceremony on August 28th which included honored guests Chicago Aldermen Walter Burnett Jr (27th Ward) and Scott Waguespack (32nd Ward), along with project team members from InSite, Interplan LLC, West Marine, and DSI.

The project team includes: Scott Nicholson, Project Principal, InSite; Rob Johnson, Construction Director, InSite; Kyle Neumann, Construction Estimator, InSite; Dennis Cabala, Director, Interplan LLC; Kelly Corso, Project Manager, Interplan LLC; Todd Abrams, Vice President, W T Civil Engineering, LLC; Ivan Kattan, Principal, DSI; Todd Hunsberger, Senior Project Manager, DSI; Jacob Karamol, Director of Business Development, DSI; Dennis Reichert, Superintendent, DSI.

Project features include: • Underground storm water detention system • Rain garden and sustainable landscaping • TPO roof & LiveRoof Lite system • Sustainable design / construction practices throughout

Phase 2 of the project will include a fully functional boat ramp to access the North Branch of the Chicago River.
