Yusen Logistics (Americas) Inc. has chosen Duke Realty Corp.’s Chicago office to build its new distribution center in Elk Grove Village, immediately west of O’Hare International Airport. Ground was broken Aug. 1 on the facility, which is scheduled for delivery in April 2013. Duke Realty is building the 229,841-square-foot facility to Yusen’s specifications on an approximately 10-acre site on Busse Road in Chicago’s largest industrial submarket.
“Due to our continued growth, we needed additional warehouse capability, and wanted to remain in the O’Hare submarket because of the transportation options available,” said Scott Corless, senior vice president, International Division with Yusen Logistics. “Duke Realty was able to meet our location requirements, plus has the development capabilities to deliver the building we want. We are confident in their abilities to deliver our new facility.”
“We are pleased that we are able to meet all of Yusen Logistics’ needs,” said Steve Schnur, senior vice president of Duke Realty’s Chicago operations. “Few modern facilities with high clear heights exist in the O’Hare submarket, so constructing a new build-to-suit facility for Yusen is an excellent way to meet their needs. This building will provide Yusen with features that will enhance efficiencies in product storage and movement, and the location will put them less than one mile west of O’Hare International Airport and directly on Busse Road, the main north/south access road that bisects the O’Hare market.”
Yusen’s new facility will feature a 30-foot clear height and include 28,000 square feet of office space. Composed of structural precast concrete, the building will also include efficient column spacing, 30 exterior dock doors, two interior docks and one drive-in door.
John Suerth with CBRE represented Yusen Logistics, while David Bercu with Colliers represented Duke Realty in the transaction.
An additional 15.19 acres of land is available for development adjacent to the site of Yusen’s new facility.
