Co-developers Fifield Cos. and Carroll Properties have announced the topping-off of the 356-unit E2 luxury apartment project in Evanston, Ill.

“This winter proved to be a challenging environment for construction, but thanks to the dedicated and highly professional team at McHugh Construction, we hit this milestone on schedule and are ready to begin the interior build-out of E2,” said Randy Fifield, vice chair and principal at Chicago-based Fifield Cos. “When E2 is complete next year, it will usher in a new standard of luxury living in downtown Evanston and provide an amazing lifestyle for multi-generational residents in this unique and beautiful North Shore city.”

E2 broke ground in October of 2013, with occupancies scheduled for winter 2015. As the first rental high-rise constructed in downtown Evanston in more than a decade, the project has provided a significant economic boost for the area economy and created 500 construction jobs.

“Once we presented the vision for E2, the community and city officials really rallied around the project and embraced it as a significant investment toward the continued vitality of downtown Evanston,” said Steve Fifield, chairman and CEO of Fifield Cos. “With the help of our financial partners at Northwestern Mutual, we are very excited to be able to create so many jobs and know that we’ll be delivering a premier property that will benefit this community for years to come.”

Designed by FitzGerald Associates Architects, the development consists of two buildings at 1881 Oak Ave. and 1890 Maple Ave. in downtown Evanston. The property at 1881 Oak will be 16 stories and 1890 Maple will consist of 14 stories. The buildings will be connected by a four-story structure that will include three floors of parking and a fourth-floor amenity deck. The majority of the development will be luxury rentals, but the property will also offer 4,000 square feet of ground floor retail space and 12 street-level, three-bedroom rental townhomes along Emerson Street. The three-story E2 townhomes range in size from 1,600 square feet to 1,750 square feet and have three bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, and a third-floor deck.

Apartment tower residences at E2 will range from 500 to 1,300 square feet and offer studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. Amenities in both products will be top-flight in keeping with Fifield’s current luxury apartment developments in downtown Chicago. No other rental project in Evanston contains the complete package of amenities and finishes that E2 possesses. Units will come equipped with quartz countertops, plank floors, stainless steel appliances, in-unit laundry, oversized windows and high-end lighting and plumbing fixtures. The residences at E2 will also be appealing to the high-tech crowd, as each unit will have a built-in Bluetooth audio system and electronic access control.

E2’s amenity deck will be open to all of its residents and will offer a full-size basketball court, yoga studio, state-of-the-art fitness center, lounge area, party room with demonstration kitchen, theater, business center with conference room, coffee bar, and an outdoor pool and spa with cabanas, a zen meditation garden and grills with sinks and dining areas. Biking enthusiasts will feel at home at E2 as well, with the development’s ample bicycle storage area and “bike kitchen,” which will offer residents space as well as supplies for quick repairs.
