The trendsetting rock ‘n’ roll-themed barbershop Floyd’s 99 will open its latest location at the new, 270,000-square-foot retail complex, Mellody Farm. One of the first to market barber style concepts catering to both men and women, Floyd’s 99 Vernon Hills will be located at 875 N. Milwaukee Avenue.
Clients can select from a full range of services including haircuts, shaving, color, waxing, deep conditioning treatments and styling. In addition to traditional hair services, Floyd’s 99 is known for its iconic barbershop straight-razor neck shave with hot lather and steamed towels, and for offering a complimentary shoulder massage after each service.
Mellody Farm is a $200 million, ground-up development with committed retail anchors such as Whole Foods Market, REI, Nordstrom Rack, HomeGoods and Barnes & Noble. Slated to be fully leased by Fall 2019, the 270,000-square-foot center will eventually offer 50 merchants and 260 executive apartments. The development is owned by the largest grocery-anchored REIT in the country—Regency Centers Corporation—a national owner, operator and developer of community-facing shopping centers.
As construction nears completion, the design of the interior will boast the Floyd’s 99 signature rock ‘n’ roll poster wall plastered with a time machine of music memorabilia and murals of vintage posters. Staffed with expert stylists and barbers, the 1,498-square-foot space will have 13 chair stations, a shampoo bowl at each station with black subway tile, stainless countertops and plasma televisions to exude a retro vibe with a modern twist.
“Although we were founded in Colorado, Illinois has always felt like a second home to us. As one of Floyd’s 99’s largest markets, we’re excited to open our 13th Illinois location and first in Vernon Hills. My brothers and I saw the Mellody Farms complex as the perfect opportunity for continued expansion outside of the Greater Chicago area in a vibrant and growing community,” said co-founder, Rob O’Brien. The O’Brien brothers established the company in 1999 and opened the doors to their first shop in Denver in 2001.
