With the assistance of Friedman Real Estate, the City of Detroit signed a long-term lease, taking 98,615 square feet of space at the two existing office buildings at 100 Mack and 100 Eliot located in the SOMA development project (South of Mack Avenue) in Detroit.
The nearly 7 acres of property at the southeast corner of Woodward and Mack avenues is set to include mixed-use retail space, two state-of-the-art parking structures with 500-plus spots each, high-end multi-family development and the proposed 130-room West Elm Hotel, set to break ground in 2020.
“This is an amazing opportunity to bring a diverse set of offerings to all areas of the city and continue the revitalization beyond just the central business district,” said Greggory Kent, Associate, Brokerage and Tenant Services at Friedman Real Estate.
As of today, plans for both the 100 Eliot and 100 Mack property, previously home to the Red Cross Michigan Headquarters, include the development of a Townhall type campus for City of Detroit agencies including the Health Department, Department of Transposition, GSD and the most recent to sign their lease, the DESC. The space for the Health Department will undergo a complete overhaul to promote the health, well-being, safety, and resilience of all Detroiters by installing a walk-in clinic in the heart of the new vibrant mixed-use district.
