The Lansing, Mich., City Council in early June approved the Gillespie Group mixed-use project that will bring the first upscale residential units to a professional minor league baseball field.

The outfield will sit just north of Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the minor league Lansing Lugnuts. The mixed-use building features about 80 residential units and about 6,000 square feet of commercial space.

The Outfield is part of a public-private partnership that includes the Gillespie Group, Lansing Lugnuts, Lansing Economic Area Partnerships and the city of Lansing.

The Outfield project is expected to begin later this year with completion by the first pitch of opening day 2016.
