Harrison Street Real Estate Capital (“HSRE”) announced that JD Goering has joined the firm as a Vice President in the Transactions Group. Mr. Goering was a Senior Vice President and led the student housing acquisition team at Blue Vista Capital Management, LLC, a real estate investment management firm based in Chicago, IL. During his time at Blue Vista JD worked on deploying capital into student acquisitions and developments at over 40 campuses across the United States totaling over $1.7 billion of assets. At HSRE, JD will join a seasoned team of domain experts in the Education sector that currently focuses on sourcing, underwriting and closing operating partner relationships and transaction opportunities throughout the US.

The Harrison Street team has acquired and developed over 400 properties in 40 states representing more than $9.0 billion in cost across the Education, Healthcare and Storage segments of the real estate markets. In particular, the Education sector comprises investments in on and off-campus student housing at 80 domestic colleges and universities which equates to over 54,000 beds acquired or developed since inception. Recently Student Housing Business named Harrison Street the largest real estate private equity firm in the student housing space. “Harrison Street has demonstrated the ability to raise, deploy and return significant capital in this sector. The firm’s performance coupled with various fund offerings has allowed HSRE to invest across core, value and opportunistic properties in the Education space. I am excited to bring my skill set to this team,“ said Mr. Goering.

“We are excited that JD has joined HSRE given his deep knowledge and expertise in the sector,” said Brian Thompson, Senior Vice President overseeing HSRE’s Education sector. “JD’s hire is strategic and complements our seasoned team of investment professionals. The characteristics of this sector include: favorable supply/demand dynamics, fragmented institutional ownership and compelling demographics, which provides sustained opportunities for investment.”
