Swansea, Ill.-based Holland Construction Services was recently awarded the contract for renovations and a new multi-classroom addition to Virginia K-12 School in Virginia, Ill. Construction is scheduled to begin in December of 2012.
“Selecting Holland as our construction manager was a multi-faceted decision,” said Brent O’Daniell, superintendent of Virginia Community Unit School District 64. “Holland’s past performance with other districts, the comfort level with Dave Birk and Bruce Holland at the interview, and affordability were all aspects taken into consideration during the decision making process.”
“The new school is being built out of necessity for our 375 students,” said O’Daniell. “Our current facilities, buildings built in 1912 and 1938, are outdated.”
The addition to Virginia K-12 is funded through a grant from the Illinois Capital Development Board. JH Petty & Associates Ltd. Architects, of Springfield, Ill., is designing the facility. Work on the 52,000-square-foot addition is expected to be complete in the summer of 2014.
