Hub Group Inc., a provider of transportation solutions for the commercial freight industry, recently broke ground for a 140,000-square-foot international headquarters in Oak Brook – the first new office building in the area since 2000. Morgan/Harbour Construction will be handling construction of the four-story, planned LEED-Gold certified office building scheduled for completion in fall 2013.
Hub Group, which is relocating its headquarters with more than 300 employees from Downers Grove, is a $2.8 billion asset-light freight transportation management company that provides comprehensive intermodal, truck brokerage and logistics services.
The company has about 1,600 employees in total and operates a network of offices and independent agents throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
With features including high-efficiency HVAC, energy efficient lighting controls and storm water harvesting, the building should achieve LEED Gold status.
Construction for the new headquarters includes demolition of the existing facility on the 17-acre site located in the I-88 Tech Corridor at 2000 Clearwater Drive in the southwest suburb of Chicago. The new four-story, Class A office facility will feature a basement as well as underground parking. The building has room for growth, with capacity for more than 700 employees. The site will feature natural habitat landscaping, ponds and walking trails for employees.
Leading the project for Morgan/Harbour are President Warren Seil and Vice President of Construction Ben Warriner. The project team will be led by Project Manager Graeme Foster and Project Superintendent Jim McCarron. Solomon Coldwell Buenz is providing the architectural services.
