Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based Mid-America Real Estate Group, which already runs offices in Minneapolis, Chicago and Milwaukee, opened a fourth Midwest location on Feb. 1. The new office, Mid-America Real Estate-Michigan Inc., is located in Detroit, and will be directed by a number of indsutry veterans in the Michigan retail real estate market.

Tony Schmitt, one of the founding principals at Mid-America Real Estate-Michigan, will work with a 12-person Michigan team, including Jack Uhazie, Brad Rosenberg, Gabe Schuchman, Daniel Stern and Chris Brochert.

“Collectively, our various areas of expertise complement each other very well, and in conjunction with the Mid-America Real Estate Group, we’ll have the ability to serve our existing and new clients more effectively than ever. Given the track record of our Michigan team and the retail-only focus of the Mid-America platform, we’ll have a strong market share and presence from day one that will emphasize the full service menu of retail activities that the Mid-America Real Estate Group already utilize elsewhere in the Midwest,” Schmitt said. “It’s great to enter the New Year with this kind of synergy.”

According to Mid-America Real Estate Group Principal Jeff Kuchman, opening a Michigan branch continues the firm’s expansion into the upper Midwest.

“Detroit is the second most populous market in the Midwest,” he says, “with great potential for all of our core business lines. Several of our partners, myself included, have roots back to the market, and we strongly believe it’s a great place to do business. We share a great affinity for Michigan, and look forward to helping our clients realize the market’s potential. We’re delighted with the assemblage of talent that has been brought together.”

The new company will initially handle the project leasing of more than 200 shopping centers, and represent more than 50 retailers across the State of Michigan.
