During a traditional steel topping-out ceremony, the new nine-story headquarters building for Polsinelli Shughart law firm was officially given the name Plaza Vista.
The hope is that this name will soon become an important part of one of Kansas City’s most important downtown neighborhoods.
The building, being built now at 48th Street between Roanoke Parkway and Belleview Avenue in Kansas City, has already had an important impact on the city. Partly because of it, Polsinelli Shughart will remain in Kansas City. That’s significant because the law firm is the second largest in the city, boasting 500 lawyers and staffers. Kansas City officials didn’t want the firm to seek its new headquarters outside of the city borders.
The 253,000-square-foot Plaza Vista will not only house the law firm, but will include a boutique hotel and retail space.
Project developer Dave Harrison, presidentof VanTrust Real Estate LLC, announced the building’s name during a June 20 news conference. Attending the conference was Russ Welsh, chairman of Polsinelli Shughart, and Sly James, mayor of Kansas City.
“Plaza Vista is an incredible project,” James said during the conference.
The completed building will be a welcome sight for Polsinelli Shughart, too. Ever since its 2009 merger with law firm Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, Polsinelli Shughart has operated two offices in Kansas City, in the downtown area at Twelve Wyandotte Plaza and at the western edge of the Country Club Plaza.
“For the first time since our merger, all of our Kansas City attorneys and staff will be able to work under one roof,” Welsh said during the news conference.
