J.C. Anderson has completed a 29,000-square-foot renovation project at the Aon Center, 200 E. Randolph Street, Chicago. Known as “Cloud Level,” the space is now the highest fitness center and amenities space in the city. The new, modern space is accented by custom wood finishes and imported stone tops, intricate ceilings accompanied by fashionable lighting, a living moss feature, exposed aged steel and zoned speaker systems with integration capabilities.

Property owner, 601W Companies, hired J.C. Anderson to complete the capital improvement project, which consisted of adding several new amenities to the building’s 70th floor. Construction of the Cloud Level included the addition of a new fitness center with complete locker rooms featuring showers and a cardio and weights area with a sound-isolated room for group fitness classes. J.C. Anderson also completed a conference center with multiple rooms, meeting room equipped with video conferencing, a bar and lounge, grab n’ go eatery along with dining area, breakout game room, several multipurpose rooms, a private event meeting space as well as a library and restrooms.

The construction team for J.C. Anderson was led by project executive Joe Maguire, project manager Mike Dunn and superintendent Joe Rojas. Gary Lee Partners provided architectural services and JLL provided project management services.

“Working with JLL and Gary Lee Partners is always a treat,” said Dunn. “Our collaboration to bring the design of the new Cloud Level amenity space to life was at full-speed ahead from the get-go, and our team efforts throughout this accelerated project proved nothing short of outstanding in terms of the end result.”

Located in downtown Chicago overlooking Millennium and Grant Parks on the eastern edge of the Loop, the Aon Center is an 83-floor skyscraper. Completed in 1973 by renowned architects Edward Durell Stone and Perkins and Will, the Aon Center is currently the third tallest building in Chicago and the eighth tallest in the United States.
