Jim Dieter Executive Vice President, Industrial Brokerage Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. Chicago
Jim Dieter made an immediate difference when he joined Cushman & Wakefield in 2010 as the firm’s executive vice president for industrial brokerage. That year, Dieter’s team closed more than 4,800 industrial transactions with an aggregate value of nearly $5 billion.
That figure represented a jump of more than 26 percent from the amount of business this unit closed one year earlier.
Dieter’s peers say that this performance is hardly surprising. Dieter is known as one of the most skilled practitioners in the commercial real estate industry. He’s also known as a natural leader. Others credit him with being an innovator, one who will consider any solution that will allow him to provide better service to his clients.
This combination is what helped inspire his team in 2010 to boost its performance so dramatically.
These traits have also helped Dieter craft a commercial real estate career that has lasted more than three decades. For 35 years, in fact, — through markets both good and bad — Dieter has succeeded in a business that is notoriously competitive and challenging.
Again, it’s that combination of market knowledge, hard work and skill that has made all the difference.
These character traits have also helped Dieter earn many of the commercial real estate industry’s top awards. NAIOP Chicago, for instance, gave Dieter its Award for Excellence in 2009, an honor that has been given to only five other recipients.
Dieter also won the fist-ever Richard G. Levy President’s Award from SIOR Chicago in 2009. This award was especially gratifying because it is one selected by Dieter’s peers in the real estate business. Also in 2009, Dieter earned the Visionary Leadership award from CB Richard Ellis.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Dieter ran CB Richard Ellis’ North American Industrial Group before joining the staff of Cushman & Wakefield. He also perviously served as a senior partner at FC&S, which, at the time, ranked as the largest independent real estate company in Chicago.
Dieter is also a sought-after expert on the commercial real estate industry. Both local and national publications frequently seek him out for quotes and information about real estate trends and news.
