JLG Architects is celebrating a significant milestone at Maple Grove Community Center (MGCC) in Maple Grove, Minnesota, concluding the first phase of renovation and expansion.
Phase one, with architectural design by JLG Architects, includes the addition of a third ice sheet, renovations serving their existing two ice sheets, an expanded lobby and locker rooms, the new Lions pavilion and play area, and general site and parking lot improvements.
MGCC will host a private grand opening celebration of phase one on March 16, 2026. The event will commence at 5:30 p.m., followed by a public open skating session at 6:00 p.m. Media is invited to attend, located at Maple Grove Community Center Ice Arena – TruStone Rink: 12951 Weaver Lake Road.
MGCC Phase One
JLG Architects and RJM have been collaborating with the City of Maple Grove on the 312,000-square-foot renovation and expansion of its Community Center since summer 2023, slated to become a social and recreational hub for ice sports, aquatics, fitness, events, and youth and senior activities.
As part of phase one, TruStone Financial Rink, providing an NHL-sized third ice sheet, celebrated its grand opening on January 2, 2026, welcoming both hockey and figure skating programs.
JLG Architects anticipates a spring 2026 completion of all phase-one elements, helping the City of Maple Grove meet substantial population and program growth, with more ice time, better training facilities, and a cohesive facility capable of hosting large events.
Although the 25-year-old facility has been known to accommodate approximately 650,000 local and regional guests each year, Maple Grove’s 18% population growth in the last decade has demanded more ice time and year-round community activity space. JLG’s renovation and addition plans further address ADA compliance, infrastructure upgrades, and operational sustainability strategies for long-term cost savings.
Supported by a 2022 voter-approved sales tax, the Maple Grove Community Center project will continue with future phases to include new pools and a new family locker room, expanded space for senior programs, event and banquet space, space for the arts, a walking track, and renovated fitness space. JLG Architects anticipates completion of all phases in 2028.
