John Goodman Executive Vice President, Branch Manager Studley, Inc. Chicago
When John Goodman joined Studley as a rookie commercial real estate broker in 1985, the company’s Chicago office was basically a boutique shop, with just five leasing professionals working there.
This all started to change once Goodman assumed the position of branch manager. He has since played a key role in growing the office into the largest tenant-only representative practice in Chicago.
Today, a staff of about 40 professionals at Studley’s Chicago office close an average of 25 million square feet in tenant-representative leasing transactions every year.
Goodman, an executive vice president with Studley, receives much of the credit for the Chicago branch’s success. He’s widely recognized by his peers as an expert on the downtown Chicago office market. And, along with his partner Rich Schuham, Goodman is a three-time winner of the Office Broker of the Year award, the prestigious commercial real estate honor passed out each year by the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Along with Schuham, Goodman leads a team of 10 Chicago office leasing professionals that consistently ranks among Studley’s top-five producing teams each year across all offices nationwide. Some of Goodman’s big-name clients includes CVS/Caremark, for whom Goodman has closed more than 500,000 square feet in Chicago-area transactions within the last year, and the American Bar Association, for whom Goodman negotiated a 200,000-square-foot headquarters lease in downtown Chicago in 2011.
Goodman also represents Mesirow Financial, handling the company’s national office portfolio strategy.
In addition to this successful career, Goodman also plays an active role in supporting the commercial real estate industry. He is a former executive board member of the Chicago Office Leasing Brokers Association. He is also well known for serving as a mentor to new commercial real estate professionals; he’s credited with helping to fuel the careers of many of the industry’s top professionals today.
Goodman is also committed to charitable causes, devoting time to such organizations as SGA Youth and Family Services and the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith. Goodman also started the Studley Landlord Challenge, an annual golf outing and fund-raiser run out of the company’s Chicago office. In the six years since Goodman launched this event, it has raised nearly $800,000 for local charities dedicating to serving children in need.
