DTZ has represented Kelly Pipe Co. LLC in the purchase of a 92,000-square-foot industrial warehouse located at 2200-2206 W. 159th St. in south suburban Markham.
A distributor of steel pipe and fittings, the firm was previously located at 16750 S. Vincennes St. in South Holland. Founded in 1898, Kelly Pipe Co. stocks domestic and imported carbon steel pipe from prominent sources around the world. The company has distribution centers throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.
Looking to expand its current 55,000-square-foot space in South Holland in order to accommodate future growth, Kelly Pipe had been in the market for a year-and-a-half, seeking land for either a build-to-suit or purchase. The Markham location is a single-story warehouse featuring 18-foot high ceilings, two drive-in doors, heavy electric and 75 surface parking spaces.
Kelly Pipe will be relocating 25 to 30 employees from its former location in South Holland, according to Associate Vice President Robert Tamillo. Tamillo, along with Senior Vice President Michael Piscoran, of the DTZ Industrial Services team, brokered the agreement with Ed Wabick, principal at Paine Wetzel, representing the seller – William Welty of Markham Property Management.
“Our client was attracted to the property for their own business use and accessibility to I-80 and I-294 touching all the points they need to reach,” Tamillo said. “They are planning a major retrofitting of the property, which began shortly after it was sold. Kelly Pipe plans to take occupancy within 90 days.”
Additional details of the agreement were not released.
