The Rochester, Minnesota, office of Kraus-Anderson has completed a 139,890-square-foot remodel and addition to Mountain Lake Public Schools in Mountain Lake, located in Southwest Minnesota. Mountain Lake Public Schools serves more than 500 students in preschool through 12th grade on a single campus.
In August of 2018 voters approved a $13 million district bond referendum project for the remodel and addition.
Designed by MLA Architects, the project included the demolition of an existing three-story section originally built in 1904, to be replaced with a new two-story classroom addition. The district-wide project safety and security upgrades include a new fire protection sprinkler system; updated fire alarm; new secure entrances with keyless access; and upgraded other facility infrastructure and maintenance items, including electrical, plumbing, lighting and windows.
The secondary portion of the campus received upgraded building security and improved student learning spaces, including new science classrooms, special education classrooms, flexible learning space, band and choir rooms and locker rooms. The high school auditorium and theater was upgraded with new seating and sound and light improvements; and the Career and Technical (CTE) rooms were renovated to create modern learning spaces, including a welding shop and new foods lab, which will have six kitchens for students in grades 7-12. The elementary portion of the building added two new full-size classrooms along with a secured entrance.
