The Rochester office of Kraus-Anderson has completed construction of Landmark by the Rivers at 525 N. 2nd St. in the trendy part of downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin. The historic renovation transformed a century-old manufacturing facility into a new, live-work-play development with luxury rental apartments, and leasing opportunities for retailers, restaurants, medical and office tenants.

Designed by Dimension IV Madison Design Group and owned by La Crosse-based JJAWC, LLC., the project converted the former La Crosse Plow Company, listed on the National Parks Service’s National Register of Historic Places, into a new, mixed-use development within walking distance of shopping and restaurants in the core of downtown La Crosse.

Phase one included rehabilitation to the existing buildings, followed by the build-out of 64 luxurious, spacious and sunny residential units in phase two.

Residents will enjoy a variety of upscale amenities in a modern, urban setting, including an exercise room, work room, ample storage for residents’ belongings, multi-purpose room, business center, dog-wash, bicycle/kayak storage and a coffee bar, as well as indoor and outdoor parking spaces. The 255,000-square-foot building also features large windows, exposed brick, fourth-floor clubhouse, rooftop deck with barbecue area, fire pits, outdoor TV and views of the Mississippi, Black and La Crosse Rivers. Landmark by the Rivers’ apartments are available now.

The original 74-foot brick chimney stack now features evening accent lighting and signage as a new landmark for downtown La Crosse. In addition, every window was replaced with custom frames to match the original windows, which included more than 800 sections of varying sizes.
