Renovation projects are underway at the Olmsted County Government Center located at 151 14th St. SE in Rochester, Minnesota. The projects are a part of Olmsted County’s long-term strategy to enhance and renovate specific county government facilities to accommodate the community’s growing justice space needs.
Kraus-Anderson is the construction manager. Construction is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023.
Olmsted County Government Center
Designed by BKV Group, the $4.2 million, 28,222-square-foot project includes a complete remodel of the fourth floor and partial remodel of the fifth floor of the Government Center. The fourth floor houses court administration and community corrections, and the fifth floor consists of felony courts.
County employees impacted by the renovations will be temporarily relocated to the Annex building located across the street from the Government Center. The rest of the Government Center will remain occupied while construction is in progress.
District Energy upgrades
Designed by Dunham Architects, various energy upgrades will be performed. Steam service for the Government Center and Annex building is being replaced with a condensing boiler plant with four new boilers. The boiler plant is in the basement of the Annex building and the chiller water plant is located in the Government Center mechanical room. The chilled and heated lines will cross 4th Street to feed each building.
Last year, Kraus-Anderson constructed a temporary courtroom for Olmsted County. The temporary court facility added more space due to a backlog of jury trials as well as Covid-19 safety protocols.
