Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) Inc. recently celebrated a ribbon cutting to mark the official completion of renovations for Lafayette Terrace Apartments, an eight-building multifamily community.
The firm was joined by 6th Ward Alderman Roderick T. Sawyer, federal, state and city officials to present the upgraded development, which includes a 52-unit mid-rise senior building at 6950 S. Vincennes and 42 family townhomes units located just west of the Dan Ryan Expressway along 75th Street.
The buildings have undergone $5 million in renovations consisting of energy-efficiency upgrades, new windows, a new roof on the senior building, new kitchens and baths and common area improvements.
This is the third multifamily complex POAH has acquired in Chicago outside of the Woodlawn neighborhood. To date, POAH has built or renovated more than 400 apartments in mixed-income buildings in Woodlawn, partnered with METROSquash to construct a youth sports/education center, created new levels of community collaboration and coordinated partner-driven development along 63rd Street.
