Lawrence Group is providing architecture, interior design, and planning services for East Central College’s new Allied Health and Advanced Manufacturing Building in Rolla, Missouri.
The $11 million project is designed to consolidate all of the college’s current academic programs and student services, a new advanced manufacturing center, and space for Certified Nurse Assistant, Certified Medical Technician, and GED programs into a single, state-of-the-art facility.
When completed, the 107,000-square-foot renovated facility at 1400 Independence will house technology-rich classrooms, advanced manufacturing and science laboratories, plus student support spaces that provide efficient, collaborative learning environments to enhance the student experience and program integration. By bringing these programs together under one roof, East Central College (ECC) will no longer need to lease two separate locations, resulting in improved operational efficiency and a stronger campus identity.
Founded in 1968, East Central College is a public community college with its main campus in Union, MO and additional campuses in Rolla and Washington, MO. Approximately 2,100 students are enrolled in classes each semester. ECC has operated in Rolla since 1995 and currently operates in two facilities. The college currently leases space from the Rolla Public Schools at the Rolla Technical Center and leases a building located at 2303 North Bishop Road. The college plans to move out of the two spaces once the acquired facility, which formerly housed United States Geological Survey operations, is fully renovated in 2027.
The integrated facility is designed to foster hands-on learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and stronger alignment with workforce needs in healthcare, welding, and industrial maintenance fields to better prepare students for in-demand careers. In addition to enhancing academic delivery, the project is designed to strengthen East Central College’s operational efficiency by eliminating the need to lease multiple off-site locations in Rolla, while reinforcing a unified campus identity that supports recruitment, retention, and long-term growth.
Having previously completed East Central College’s campus master plan, Lawrence Group’s higher education team brings a deep understanding of the campus and its unique needs, which directly informed the design of this facility from early visioning through implementation.
K&S Associates, Inc. has been selected as the general contractor on the project with Navigate Building Solutions serving as the owner’s representative managing the overarching preconstruction and building efforts.
