Uptown’s historic Lawrence House, which serves upscale housing to the arts and entertainment district at 1020 W. Lawrence Ave., will open its doors June 16 after an extensive renovation process that began in 2013. Crain’s reported last year that the project was totaled at $15 million.
Originally built in 1928, the 12-story Art Deco building has been in much need of repair until developer Cedar Street Companies purchased the property two years ago for $7.5 million.
The firm, who owns and operates FLATS Chicago throughout Chicago, will unveil the transformation of Lawrence House as it becomes it’s “flagship” property for the brand.
The new Lawrence House will feature 344 apartment units and five ground level retail spaces, including Heritage Outpost, and a bar/cocktail lounge named Lady Louise after the late Jay Michaels beloved French Bulldog and a new start up business that will be unveiled at the grand opening from the #FLATSPROJECT small business accelerator program.
The buildings amenities include the restored original basement pool, fitness center with boxing ring, expansive lobby lounge featuring the restored original skylight (which had been covered up for years), a roof lounge and deck, as well as a backyard, opening later this year, where residents can mingle with a community fire pit, lounge spaces, grills, outdoor movie screen and a dog run.
As part of a continued partnership, CB2 will completely furnish a model unit at The Lawrence House. Apt CB2 III is the third annual Instagram/design blogger campaign allowing people to vote on which of three design schemes they would like to see made into reality. Many of the lobby and common areas are furnished with CB2 items as well.
