The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has honored Liberty Property Trust with an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year designation for the fourth consecutive year – and bestowed the organization’s highest honor, the Sustained Excellence Award, for a second year.

“Through their sustained participation with ENERGY STAR, Liberty Property Trust is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. “I applaud Liberty for again earning EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR award, the 2015 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award, demonstrating a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations.”

The Sustained Excellence Award highlights Liberty’s continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency.

“For nearly two decades, Liberty Property Trust has been proactively committed to responsible environmental stewardship,” said Bill Hankowsky, Chairman and CEO of Liberty. “The Sustained Excellence Award recognizes that sustainability is an ingrained value at Liberty and we remain committed to improving the environment and bringing the savings for doing so to our tenants.”

Since 2003, Liberty has certified 140 buildings as Energy Star and developed 87 LEED® commercial buildings* and has increased its average Energy Star score from 55 to 77 since 2008. This has generated, and continues to generate, a more than 20 percent annual energy savings, much of which is passed to tenants in the form of lower costs in buildings in which Liberty controls the energy flow.

The 2015 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors. Award winners are selected from the 16,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
