McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. joined Phelps Health May 21 to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of a new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) base in Rolla, Missouri.
The new building replaces an aging EMS station and enhances emergency response capabilities in the region.
Located on the main Phelps Health campus in Rolla in the heart of the Ozarks, the new EMS base was partially funded by a $4 million American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant from the State of Missouri. Its strategic location brings EMS teams closer to the Emergency Department while maintaining easy access to I-44.
The 17,500-square-foot facility enhances Phelps Health’s emergency response capabilities, improves support for EMS personnel and elevates patient care across the region. Designed for both operational efficiency and staff comfort, highlights of the new EMS base include:
· Eight ambulance bays (doubling capacity from the previous facility)
· A second helicopter landing pad
· Sixteen bunk rooms for EMS staff and Phelps Air crews
· Dedicated training rooms and modern amenities to support continuing education and extended shifts
· A tornado storm shelter to protect crews during severe weather
