In early November, members of the McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. Kansas City team joined Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a national dairy cooperative owned by family farmers, to celebrate the opening of DFA Garden City in Overland Park, Kansas. McCarthy served as general contractor for the state-of-the-art, 214,000-square-foot dairy ingredients plant located in Southwest Kansas.
The plant, which has brought 66 new jobs to the area, produces whole and skim milk powder, nonfat dry milk powder and cream, and receives approximately four million pounds of milk per day from regional farms. DFA Garden City is a partnership between DFA and 12 of its member farms in Southwest Kansas. It will help support the industry’s continued growth in the region, as well as meet rising demand for U.S. dairy both domestically and globally.
“McCarthy is proud to play a small part in helping DFA and its cooperative farmers secure a larger role in the global food supply chain by building this technologically advanced processing plant in Kansas,” said McCarthy Director, Greg Lee. “The Garden City DFA facility is a model for sustainability and demonstrates McCarthy’s ability to collaboratively deliver value and expertise for an advanced manufacturing construction project with an aggressive schedule.”
