McCarthy Building Cos. recently topped out the new 875,000-square-foot hospital that it is building in Joplin, Mo., for Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy, a healthcare system.
Mercy Hospital Joplin is a replacement for the former St. John’s Mercy Regional Medical Center. That buiding was destroyed by an EF-5 tornado in May of 2011.
To celebrate the occassion, officials with Mercy and the city of Joplin signed the final steel beam of the new hospital’s shell.
McCarthy started construction on the new hospital, which carries a construction budget of $335 million, in January of last year. The new building will include surgical, critical care, behavorial health and rehab facilities. It will also offer labor and delivery services.
