McDonald’s is taking a bigger bite out of its future headquarters location than originally anticipated. The company is now planning to occupy nearly 500,000 square feet of total space when it makes it move to Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood by spring 2018.
Reports circulated Tuesday of new changes that are said to take place at the former Harpo Studios campus, 1045 W. Randolph St., where McDonald’s will house its headquarters offices, Hamburger University and more than 2,000 employees.
The burger giant now plans to occupy all of the office space within the nine-story building and part of the ground-level retail, Crain’s reports. A McDonald’s spokeswoman told Crain’s that the square footage it’s leasing has increased to accommodate the company’s needs, but did not mention the exact total size of the space, noting that it’s “nearly 500,000 square feet.”
