Meridian Design Build was recently selected to coordinate construction efforts for a 236,273-square-foot distribution center for Johnstone Supply at 3500 Corporate Drive in Joliet.

The new facility will be Johnstone Supply’s first distribution center in Illinois. The national wholesaler and distributor of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration parts and equipment will utilize the facility to relieve pressure on its Memphis distribution center and offer same-day deliveries to its 60-plus retail stores throughout the Midwest.

Improvements will include a hazardous materials storage room, reconfiguration/expansion of 8,600 square feet of office space, and installation/reconfiguration of loading dock positions to accommodate a single-loaded operation. T5 high output fluorescent lighting will be provided throughout the warehouse and a diesel generator will be installed for emergency backup purposes.

Johnstone Supply will occupy the facility in January 2013 under a long-term lease with STRS Ohio. Walter Murphy of Lee & Associates represented the landlord and Steven Tick of Podolsky Northstar CORFAC International represented Johnstone Supply in the transaction.

Bob Kolcz, senior project manager, and John Tomasetti, superintendent, will coordinate the project for Meridian. Architectural services are being provided by A + M Architects. Paris Arnold with Lee & Associates Asset Management Group worked closely with the tenant to specify and coordinate improvements necessary to meet their needs.
